Changing It Up
I've decided we need a change up in the Tribiani Household. We generally try to get 4 days of home ed and this term I'm handing over the reins a bit more. I'm letting the kids pick their own topics but I'm really going to try and focus more on home economics, especially cooking, baking, sewing and life skills.
*O, our lad, really loves to make flapjacks, so that's his thing. We experiment with added extras like chocolate chips and raisins. *I, our middle girl still enjoys baking and hates when I try to help. She's decided she enjoys baking cupcakes as opposed to full cakes. Today they *I and *O baked flapjacks and *N baked butter biscuits.
I'm going to try and set days for home economics, online work stuff, worksheets and workbooks, and topic/project/creativity. *O likes knowing exactly what he's going to do the next day so that it's no big surprise and *I likes a little school-like structure. As *N goes to college she doesn't have to do anything unless she wants to, she has her own assignments to do. I'm hoping it will work better and get them a little more ready to start and get going in the mornings.
*N, our oldest daughter is attending college and would like to earn some money but with only being a middle-aged teen, it's hard for her to get a Saturday job. These days, no one wants their kids babysat by teenagers anymore, nor their grass cut, dog walked, car cleaned or shopping collected so she's a little out of options. We decided we would pay her to do those things for us instead. Maybe not the grass cutting in the winter months, but there's plenty of leaves to be raked and popped into the green bin.
I have a new project, well it's more of a "keep the jobcentre happy" thing. They are offering training to job seekers now, although what's available to me is pretty dire, it's something I can show them I'm doing apart from job searches. It's an online course called "Mental Health Awareness". How that's supposed to make any difference to me getting a job as a life coach/mentor I have no idea. I don't classify life coaching as being part of the health sector. It's not like it's referred help from a doctor. It's about gently pushing people to move forward in their life achieving set goals, it certainly is not counselling of any form. But if it keeps them from moaning at me or staring at me with their judgy eyeballs it's worth doing.
I have 3 months to complete it and hopefully by then, fingers crossed, the Hubs will have been chosen for a building/brick laying apprenticeship. It will squash his training from 4 years down to 2. Waiting is hell, and the college hasn't even sent his application letter in yet which is really frustrating but what can you do? But if he does get chosen it means I can go full freelance with article/content/blog writing, selling CBD Oil, and Life Coaching. That should be enough to rake in some notes, even if it's not that much to begin with it will be a start and more importantly something I enjoy doing!
