Winding Down

There's 2 more weeks of school to go until the holidays. I know home ed means you're not restricted to set holidays but with having one of our children at school makes it hard not to. Plus our eldest girl likes to keep in touch with her old school friends so holidays have run run along mainstream at our house. Anyway, 2 weeks left and I'm trying my best to wrap up all the work we've been doing at home. So far I'm on point and not panicking too much. Our topic at the moment is The future and our last worksheet is about computers. Past, present and future. We've done some worksheets on time capsules and future society. I want to try and find an easily understandable version about The Venus Project. It's really interesting and if anyone out there is wondering what our childrens future and our grandchildrens future might or could look like, have a mosey over to You Tube and check it out. It's a great concept and something I hope will one day happen.

We are doing worksheets about hazard and safety too. It includes all kinds of things. Safety around the house, out and about and food hygene etc. They aren't very interested in it but they have learned a few things from it. So we'll get that all finished up. There's some core curriculum worksheets to do and then we'll be done. I'm not signing up another year of Ed Place, not because I'm unhappy with the service, just because *I is at school now, *N has gone as far as she can with it, and *O really isn't enjoying it at the moment. So we'll stick with workbooks next term and carry on with Mathblaster, reading and touch typing which he seems to enjoy. I've also ordered for next term already a couple of cursive workbooks. They really need to try and learn joined up writing (that is readable) so we'll see how that goes.

*N is learning her highway code (not sure if I've previously mentioned that), she's already getting bored with it so a nice 6 week break from it will be just perfect. She's working her way through a science book which is really good because it's a couple of pages per subject so by the time she's had enough about learning about finger prints and hair folicals it's done with. Next term I'll carry on with online learning from various websites, core curriculum, photography (if they want to carry on with it) and exercise challenges. I think I need to relax a little, I feel like a strict teacher at the moment and I don't like that. Thank goodness holidays are almost here.

I would like to take up some distance learning myself, but I'm really unsure of what to do as yet. The OU seems to be the most reliable source of distance learning but I'm a little overwhelmed when it comes to applying for the student loan. I need to do more research.

I have seen a couple of holistic courses that aren't too far away to attend, although they are pricey and so with no payment method other than deposit and full payment I'll have to save up. I'd like to learn how to do Hot Stone Therapy and Hopi Ear Candle Technique. Not sure how much of a career I can make from it, but it's something I'd like to learn. Anyway, it's games night tonight so I'm off for a family game of trivial pursuit. Bye.
