Easter Hols

I know we home ed but the kids still like to have the holidays off. It's hard to say no as my eldest's friends all go to mainstream and so her time to socialise with them more often is during the holidays. So I can't really tell the other 2 to get on with their work. Anyway it gives me a chance to catch up on all the things I like to do too. Last night I decided to make a macramé fruit bowl hanger. 3 tiers and all made with a spare curtain ring and an old pair of (clean!) thick woolley tights. It took some time but I got there in the end. I decided though that after testing the weight of the bowls with the fruit in that it could be a bit much for it to take. So next time I'm in town I think I will look for some very white plastic plant pots and use it for light weight plants instead. Today I taught myself how to latch hook a rug. Not realising just how time consuming it is I think it should be finished in roughly 4 years! I have the beginnings of arthritis in my thumbs and so I can only latch one row at a time. I saw a great little project online, perfect for my vision for the lounge. A woven wall hanger. The web page showed a weave board made of plastic which looked like a peg board with interchangable pegs for different widths and lengths. It was VERY expensive! Almost £40. There's no way I would pay that much even if I could afford it in the first place. So I decided I'm going to make one. The hubz just needs to cut it out for me and I will tap in a bunch of nails and use a lolly stick with a small slit in one end to slide the wool into. Job done at zero cost. I think it's important, especially when you home educate, to show the kids that you can learn and try new things at any point of your life. You don't have to join a group or enter a classroom to learn something new. Self learning is really satisfying. The hubz is super busy getting on with painting and decorating. Luckily we bought all the paint and most of the wallpaper last year before our bank accounts plumetted. For what we have needed to buy we've sold a few bits and pieces around the house and garden. I'ts looking really awesome. White everywhere with accent colours and patterns. We have a botanical look in the dining room with teal/turquoise accents in the chandelier, butterfly and bird sparkle wall paper, and a textured sprayed fire surround. In the lounge I'm going for boho aztec cuban jungle. Sounds crazy right?! But I have it all planned in my mind. If you google The Jungalow you'll get a feel for what I'm going for. The hall, stairs and landing are brilliant white on every wall and it now looks amazing. The previous tenants were big fans of beige walls and brown woodwork......everywhere!

The kid's rooms are sorted with a modern Alice in wonderland feel wallpaper and new curtains in the girl's room, and our son's bedroom all shades of blue which he insisted on but which I made cosier with a red white and blue striped blind and a mickey mouse rug. The hubz did the bathroom, more white, with a green and white polkadot blind and a shower screen. However about 2 months later we found out that the council will be fitting us a new bathroom with a wet room and so we wasted quite alot of money there, but I really can't complain when everything will be replaced and made safe for my disability needs. The laundry room and downstairs back hall and loo are just plain white to get as much light in there as possible and look really fresh and clean now. I would love new flooring but our bank accounts say NO! I would really like the kitchen to have a freshen up if we have any white paint left over. So after the lounge is finished we can make a start on our bedrooom. White....again....with a grey and white Paris themed wall paper. My plan is to make it very cosy with soft pink accents when we get some spare cash. I really hope that the weather cheers up soon. The kids are dying to get stuck into the garden jungle gym project. I really want the paving around the deck put in place and get the brick planters made. All the paving and decking needs a good jet wash, and the back garden in general needs a good tidy up. There's a sale on at the moment at our local garden cente. I'm gutted I can't spend any money! The front flower boxes and baskets are in dire need of new plants. I have seeds, but I prefer instant garden.

We don't have many day out plans for the easter holidays which is a shame. I feel bad having to say no to things. There's only so much you can do to make the local park and woods seem more exciting to a 13, 10, and 8 year old. So for the remaining of the day today I shall be scouring the interweb for free things to do near me over the holidays. The trouble is, most things are free are outside, and with our weather I've got a feeling we'll be having ALOT of movie nights.

So, although I'll probably blog again before the holidays are over, I'll wish you all a happy easter. Bye for now. :)
